Samuel’s Ear December 11, 2008

Oh give me Samuel’s ear
An open ear O Lord
Alive and quick to hear
Each whisper of Thy word
Like him to answer to Thy call
And to obey Thee
First of all.

I heard Bill Hybel’s quote this a couple of weeks ago on lifechurch.tv. I do not know who originally said it, Bill memorized it as a little boy. And it resonates within me. So much so that I had to listen again and I had to write it down. Now it resides on my desk at work, in my phone, on my pc.
Most of all I want it to reside in my heart and mind.
Do you have a quote or prayer that has touched a chord in you? Will you share?

Cry Out November 17, 2008

I cried out to the Lord, and He answered me from His holy mountain. Ps. 3:4

All I have to do is cry out to Him, He will answer me! It is me who doesn’t always cry out. The Lord always answers, He is just waiting to be asked. Thank you Lord for always being there, always.
I am so glad He knows my heart, the deepest part that I don’t even know. And that knowing all there is to know about me, He still loves me unconditionally, with a love I cannot imagine. The wonderful thing is, that I do get to experience it!
The Lord loves us all, each and every one. He knows each of our hearts. We can ALL experience that love. Learning to walk in that love is a free gift to everyone who cries out, to everyone who believes. Cry out! Cry out!!!

What thorn? November 14, 2008

2 Corinthians 12:1-10 (NIV)

Paul’s Vision and His Thorn

1I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. 2I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. 3And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows— 4was caught up to paradise. He heard inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell. 5I will boast about a man like that, but I will not boast about myself, except about my weaknesses. 6Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say.

7To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

What do thorns look like today? High IQ? Beautiful singing voice? Gifted writer? Gifted speaker? Looks? Car? House? Job? These things in and of themselves are not bad. Only when we get so prideful that they consume our time, our thoughts. When we place them above our Lord. When it becomes about us and our abilities.

Do you believe we all have thorns? Do you know what yours is? Are you (me) thanking the Lord for it instead of complaining about it? Is your (my) attitude the same as Paul’s?

The 50,000 Pairs in 50 Days Challenge

Through the new world of blogging, emailing, twittering, and through many other forms of online media, the non-profit hopes to achieve not only the fundraising goal, but also to spread their mission far and wide. The Soles4Souls http://www.50000shoes.com charity challenge will be live on Monday, November 10, 2008 and end on Wednesday, December 31, 2008.

“A strong grass-roots effort, combined with an effective web-based social marketing platform, will allow Soles4Souls to form online community in a creative manner while being effective with raising funds and helping those in need,” he said.

“This is a huge challenge to meet a huge need. We want to virally attack the issues of poverty and make it simple for the end user to play a role in it,” Elsey stated.

Donating is easy and takes just a click and a couple of minutes. It requires no shipping, no wrapping and no trips to the post office. The monetary donation is small with $5.00 buying two pairs of new shoes. Anyone can click and give, and all donations are tax-deductible.

After 50,000 pairs have been donated, one person (with a guest of their choosing) will be selected at random to deliver the shoes they purchased to someone in need on one of Soles4Souls’ trips to Mexico!

Social networking has become a very powerful communications tool; however, no one knows when life will hit hard or where a disaster will strike. One day you have everything you need; the next you may only have your life. A pair of shoes can help people begin the rebuilding process. Shoes not only bring hope, but in millions of cases they can save lives. It is estimated that Americans have 1.5 billion pairs of unworn shoes lying in their closets while over 300 million children around the world have never owned a pair of shoes. This is an opportunity to “Step Up” and to help Soles4Souls with their mission of “Changing the World, One Pair at a Time” with “One Click at A Time.”

Empty me November 3, 2008

One day last week a dear friend prayed with me. She prayed that I would ‘in the moment’ seek God, spend a moment with Him. If I can just take 5 minutes, 2 minutes to spend time to be refreshed. To let God be the lifter of my head.
And then I got in the car to drive home and the song on the radio was ‘Empty Me’ by Chris Sligh. That song touches a chord deep in me and was absolutely what I needed to hear. The line “empty me of me, so I can be filled with You”…
It’s not enough that I go take that time, moment by moment throughout the day. When I take those moments I need to empty myself, so He can fill me up. To give all the cares and concerns to the One who loves me completely. If I’m not empty how can the Lord fill me? I must give in order to receive, and who wants to hold on to all that yuck?

Empty me of me Lord, so I can be filled with YOU.

I’m going to vote as if I’m not October 29, 2008

Seeking the Lord and what He wants me to do. Leaving the rest to Him, knowing that God already knows the outcome and is in control. His will is going to be done.

Does that remove the responsibility from me to go out and vote? No. Am I going to get all twitterpated and let it rule my life? No. I love my country and am proud to be an American. So honored and privileged to vote. I am going to do my duty and rest in God.

John Piper said it so well. Go here now to read it. Putting the elections into perspective. Thank you Lisa for pointing me to such a well written piece.
